Privacy has three parts: visual, acoustic, and psychological. A 66- or 82-inch panel handles the visual part — nobody walking past can see a screen. Acoustic privacy is different: fabric-wrapped Teknion panels absorb some sound, and taller panels interrupt the direct path of a voice, but no cubicle is a sealed room. The third part matters most in practice — when a station feels enclosed, people lower their voices, take sensitive calls more carefully, and stop treating the whole floor as one conversation.

Layout Moves That Add Privacy Without Adding Walls

A few planning choices make a big difference. Stagger station entrances so two people facing each other are not looking straight into each other's screens. Put the tallest panels along traffic routes and beside meeting-room doors, where passersby are constant. Use glazed upper sections — like the ones in the cover photo — on the tallest runs so the floor still feels bright. And give call-heavy roles an end station against a wall: one solid side is free privacy you do not have to buy.

Finally, plan power and data for the quiet row at the same time. A focus station without a proper power feed just pushes people back to their regular desk for the call that mattered.
