Used Teknion Cubicle Space Planning: Fit More Workstations in Your GTA Office (2026)

Good space planning is the difference between an office that feels crowded at 20 people and one that still works comfortably at 30. With used Teknion cubicles, GTA businesses get a second advantage: because Teknion is Ufficio Furniture's main cubicle inventory by far, stations can be reconfigured in many sizes and layouts — so the plan can fit your floor, instead of your floor having to fit a fixed catalogue product. Here is how to plan a Teknion layout that adds seats without cutting corners on comfort, power, or storage.

Start with the building, not the furniture

Measure the full floor carefully before choosing a single station: wall-to-wall dimensions, columns, windows, doors, washroom and kitchen locations, and where power and data enter the space. Columns are the most common planning surprise in GTA office towers and industrial-unit offices alike — a row that looks perfect on a blank drawing can lose a seat to a column that sits 30 inches inside the wall line.

Leave proper circulation space, too. Main aisles generally need about 42 to 48 inches so two people can pass, and secondary aisles should stay around 36 inches. Squeezing aisles narrower to force in extra stations almost always backfires: the office feels cramped, chairs collide, and future moves become harder. A realistic plan usually fits fewer stations than a rough sketch suggests — and works far better for the people sitting in it every day.

Choose station sizes by job, not by habit

The classic 6x6 foot and 6x8 foot Teknion stations still suit most roles, but they are not the only options. Staff who work mainly on a laptop and spend much of the day in meetings often work well in a 5x5 or 6x5 foot footprint. Staff with dual monitors, reference materials, or paper files usually need the full 6x6 or 6x8, plus storage.

That mix is where used Teknion saves real money. Instead of buying every seat at the largest size, a blended plan might put focused-work roles in larger stations and collaborative roles in smaller ones. At typical used prices — starting around $700 CAD per station for Teknion TOS and around $899 CAD per station for Leverage, compared with roughly $3,000 to $5,000 CAD or more new — right-sizing each seat can cut the furniture budget for a 20-person office by thousands of CAD while giving everyone the space their job actually requires.

Use pods, rows, and panel heights to shape the room

How stations are grouped matters as much as how big they are. Pods of four or six share panels efficiently, which lowers the cost per seat and keeps cable runs short. Straight benching-style rows suit open, collaborative teams. L-shaped and 120-degree configurations can soften a long, narrow floor and create natural team zones.

Panel height does the acoustic and visual work. Lower 39-inch or 47-inch panels keep sightlines open and suit sales and collaborative teams. Panels at 54 inches give seated privacy for focused work, and 66-inch panels suit call-heavy roles or stations near busy aisles. Glazed stackers can raise height without blocking daylight — a practical compromise near windows. Mixing heights by zone, while keeping fabric and finish consistent, makes a refurbished floor look deliberate rather than assembled.

Plan power, data, and storage before you order

Every layout should state, seat by seat, where power is fed, how many receptacles each person gets, and where data cables run. Teknion systems route power through the panel base, so the feed points on your floor plan decide where rows can start. Confirming those points early avoids the most common install-day delay: a perfect layout with power arriving in the wrong place.

Storage deserves the same attention. A pedestal per person is a sensible baseline; teams with shared files may do better with a lateral cabinet at the end of a pod, which frees foot space at each seat. Overhead bins add storage without using floor area, bringing a typical TOS station to around $1,100 CAD configured. Planning storage on paper is free — discovering you need it after installation is not.

Leave room to grow — and come see a layout in person

Finally, plan for the next hire, not just today's headcount. Leaving one or two open stations in a pod, or choosing a layout that can extend a row by one seat, costs little now and avoids a disruptive re-plan later. A good space plan also keeps a clear path for delivery and installation, so the furniture you order can actually reach its spot on the floor.
